Newsletter April 18, 2017 Notice of 60th Annual General Meeting

Please mark your calendars for May 7th to attend the 60th Annual General Meeting of the Memorial Society of Edmonton & District.

Bylaw Changes – vote required.

The upcoming year will be an eventful year in the life of our Society.  Several important issues requiring direction from you, our members, will be open for discussion.  Your board will put before you two By-Law amendments which may have significant impact on the future direction of the Society.  Come out, discuss and vote.

We are also making an urgent call for Volunteer Board members.  Four members of our board will be ending their terms and Society by-laws stipulate that the board be comprised of no fewer than nine members.  Please step forward with your time and expertise in what is a necessary and rewarding experience.

Hear about the initiatives implemented by your current Board of Directors and volunteers to enhance your membership benefits and attract new members.  It has been a busy and sometimes trying year but we are proud of our accomplishments to date and are ready to move forward with your help.

We look forward to your participation in the affairs of the society and request both your AGM attendance and your assistance in contacting those members who may not have email access.

Funeral and Cemetery Providers will be available at AGM

As in past meetings, we are pleased to be joined by our MSED Funeral and Cemetery providers. This year as well, we will be welcoming representatives from SAGE Social Services, Edmonton Police Services-Seniors Protective Services, Dying With Dignity, Natural Burial-Doing Death Differently and Honouring Life’s End.  This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with these knowledgeable people, get information on the services they provide and have your questions answered.

This year’s meeting features a panel discussion on “Medical Assistance in Dying” headed by Dr. Douglas Faulder, Medical Director Continuing Care Alberta Health Services and the Medical Lead Edmonton Zone Medical Assistance In Dying Coordination Team, and proponents of End of Life issues.

With such a timely and important topic, we have opened our doors to the general public and encourage you to spread the word to family and friends.

Join us at 2:00 pm at Central Lions Seniors Recreation Centre, 11113-113 Street NW, Edmonton.
